I am a 23-year resident of Trancas Highlands and live down canyon from a medical rehab facility. I have seen the proliferation of medical rehab facilities on Trancas Canyon Road completely take over that neighborhood. Nobody disputes the need for effective rehabilitation of addictive disorders, but to allow clustering of these businesses in residential neighborhoods, to add to their bottom line, is wrong.
The safety issue of high volume traffic of business employees and support vehicles on our canyon roads, patients who are often confused and disoriented wandering our neighborhoods is simply a tragic accident waiting to happen. In an age when we have numerous military bases and hospitals closing, it makes much more sense to designate these as medical rehabilitation facilities rather than allow them to cluster in residential neighborhoods. I guess I’m confused. I thought our elected representatives were supposed to protect all of the citizens, those with addictions, but also those without.
