Disc golfers gathered at Lake Casitas recreation area to compete for $10,000 at a Spring Fling event that raised funds for Malibu-based nonprofit Safety Harbor Kids.

One of the fastest growing sports in the country, disc golf revolves around the objective of throwing a frisbee-style disc into a basket. Similar to ball golf, the first throw is a drive, the second shot is an approach and the third shot is a putt.

The Lake Casitas Spring Fling was presented by the World Disc Golf Association, and sponsored by HWI gear, ASR construction, Ojai Community Bank and others.

Safety Harbor Kids’ mission is to help orphans, foster children and homeless children live better lives through education. The nonprofit provides tutoring programs for disadvantaged teens within 50 miles of  Malibu, Ventura, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. Disc golf is included as one of the organization’s teen education programs.Â
