artwork on display at the Skirball Cultural Center

This July, the Skirball Cultural Center will be opening its doors to the artwork of the late Milton Hirschl (1917-1999). During this exhibit, visitors will view prints and drawings of this Los Angeles artist.

Hirschl was an important member of the figurative-expressionist movement artists from the post-World II era. He was also a respected teacher at Pierce College in Woodland Hills.

Hirschl gained prominence as an artist in the early 1950s, which resulted in national and international shows, including an exhibition of his prints at the Smithsonian Institution in 1952.

The show’s 34 wood engravings and pastels on paper embody Hirschl’s recurring theme of exploring life’s dark underside. On display will be his work from 1945-1998.

To see this exhibit, visit the Skirball Cultural Center’s Ruby Gallery at 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles from July 18-Sept. 22.
