In an Aug. 23 announcement, Team USA announced players who will represent the country at the men’s volleyball Pan-American Cup. The tournament will take place in Veracruz, Mexico, from Aug. 28-Sept. 2.

David Wieczorek, current Pepperdine senior, will be competing as an outside hitter while university alum Matthew Pollock will serve as a middle blocker.

Waves men’s volleyball head coach David Hunt has been picked to serve as Team USA head coach, with help from UCLA and USC assistant coaches.

Wieczorek previously played on Team USA for the 2017 Pan American Cup, where the team placed fifth.

“Our challenge is going to be our ability to side out against teams that run something different than we’re used to,” Hunt said in a statement to TeamUSA.org. “But I’d rather be in our pool than an easier pool and have to go from zero-to-110 in the quarterfinals and semifinals.”

If Team USA qualifies for a top five position, it will be off to the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
