Fire breaks out in Malibu

July 4, 2008, 5 p.m.—A fire has broken out in Malibu north of Las Virgenes Canyon Road near Mulholland Highway. The fire, which started at a mobile home park at 3:30 p.m., has burned 10 acres of brush so far, Sheriff’s officials said. The fire at the mobile home was put out, but flames spread to nearby brush.

Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Stations officials said traffic is closed in both directions on Las Virgenes/Malibu Canyon Road. Evacuations have been ordered at the park. A sheriff’s spokesperson said it is not yet know how the fire started. No other information was available at this time.
