More than three months after Malibu’s public information officer job was vacated, the city has finally found a new PIO: Sandi Turner, a 20-year veteran of the public relations and communications industry.

Turner begins work on Monday, July 8, and will also be formally introduced that night at the City Council meeting. She takes over for Olivia Damavandi, who worked as Malibu’s PIO for two years before leaving her post in March.

Prior to moving to Malibu this year, Turner worked as a PIO for 16 years in Athens Clarke County, Georgia, according to city manager Jim Thorsen. Before her job with Athens Clarke County, she spent three years as public relations director for Padgett Business Services.

Thorsen said Turner would take the helm on handling the city’s social media accounts, composing press releases, working with the local television channel and working with city council members.

“She’s great, you’ll love working with her,” he told The Malibu Times.
