Mail is handed out at the old post office on Saturday.

Starting Saturday, Nov. 17, Malibu residents may pick up mail at the once shuttered Malibu Colony Station USPS distribution center at 23648 Pacific Coast Highway. Hours of operation (Nov. 17 only) are 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. There will be no service Sunday.

Effective Monday, a temporary schedule has been announced for Malibu mail pick up. Mail can be retrieved Monday through Friday at the Malibu location from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and next Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  A voice recording announcing the hours did not indicate operation hours this Thursday (Thanksgiving Day).

The USPS also announced the Topanga Post Office has been reoccupied. Operation will resume effective Monday. Topanga postal customers can retrieve mail in Topanga Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 .a.m to 3 p.m.

All retail services have been suspended until further notice at both locations. Residents are reminded to bring a valid photo identification to pick up mail.

Earlier in the week, Malibu residents were forced to drive to South Central Los Angeles to a USPS facility on Central Avenue. According to one Malibu resident who made the hour drive to pick up mail, the scene was a bit disorganized. After a nearly-30-minute wait to pick up mail, it was clear that some expected deliveries were not included in his bundle, including a necessary prescription from a mail order pharmacy.

The USPS has apologized to local customers and is asking for patience while it follows instructions from the Los Angeles County Fire Department following evacuations from the Woolsey Fire.
