The City of Malibu announced that the Michael Landon Center at Malibu Bluffs Park and City Hall would serve as emergency cooling centers through Thursday, July 26. The announcement comes after the National Weather Service issued two warnings—an excessive heat warning and a high surf advisory—yesterday.

The high surf advisory is in place through 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 25. The excessive heat warning is in place through 8 p.m. Thursday, July 26.

“The cooling centers will offer an air-conditioned, indoor rest area with water and ice packs available,” according to information released by the city.

NWS warns that there is an increased potential for heat-related illness. The LA County Department of Public Health advises residents reduce physical activity (especially outdoors), drink plenty of fluids and to never leave people/pets unattended in a vehicle.

The weather is predicted to hit the high 80-90 degree Fahrenheit range for Malibu over the week, while inland areas can expect temperatures into the high 90s.

The Michael Landon Center is located in Malibu Bluffs Park at 24250 Pacific Coast Highway and is open 1-6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays. Malibu City Hall is located at 23825 Stuart Ranch Road and is open Tuesdays-Thursdays, from 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., and Fridays from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
