Point Dume Marine Science School, with the financial support of The David Geffen Foundation and Kelly and Ron Meyer, among others, has successfully added 33 solar panels to one of its buildings in the effort to conserve energy.

The panels were added to southward facing classrooms to ensure maximum sun exposure, adding to the ways the school is preventing 3.52 tons of coal from being burned and 10,919 pounds of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere, as stated in its recent press release. Additional earth-friendly activities performed by students include recycling, composting, reusing steel water bottles and banning the use of Styrofoam lunch trays in the school’s cafeteria.
