Malibu High School senior James Gordon has been accepted to Massachusetts Institute of Technology on a partial scholarship for the fall 2013 semester. MIT only admits around eight percent of applicants each year.
In addition to his academic accomplishments, Gordon has been involved in his community as well. He has served as senior class president, went on a National Youth Leadership Mission to Washington D.C. and was the 2012 California Boys State delegate.
During his time at Malibu High, Gordon has played basketball, captained the cross country team, and taken part in track and field, completing running events such as the 200 meter and 3200 meter, as well as field evens like shot put and high jump. He has also participated in the high school wind ensemble, jazz band and Malibu funk band.
Gordon has also contributed more than 720 hours to charity. During the past two summers, he has spent three weeks helping out at WoodLeaf, a Young Life camp in Challenge, Calif.
“James’ acceptance into MIT is a true testament of his character, and an honor to him, his family, school and community,” Gordon’s family wrote. “With his deep caring for friends and family, and unique energetic spirit, we know he will continue to be a great success at MIT and beyond.”
