What’s this I hear about the city of Malibu removing seats from the theatre of the former Malibu Performing Arts Center? It cost millions to build and the city wants to take out half the seats thus eliminating potential revenue and robbing Malibu residents of access to high caliber artists performing in an intimate, sophisticated, acoustically perfect environment right in our own back yard.
Our community needs art and culture, not just for adults but for kids, as well. There are so many young people in Malibu who are musically gifted and needing a place to perform. One already exists but is in danger of being destroyed. And by the way, we own it! Our tax dollars bought MPAC and now our tax dollars will pay to destroy it unless we do something to stop this. There are other ways the city could redesign the building without declawing its ability to generate much needed revenue and provide a valuable community service.
