City of Malibu, The Malibu Times to observe holiday hours

The City of Malibu and The Malibu Times will observe special hours for Independence Day, July 4.

The Malibu Times office, located at 3864 Las Flores Canyon Road, will be closed on Thursday, July 4. On Friday, July 5, the TMT office will be open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

All newspaper deadlines for the next week will remain the same. People items and sports briefs will be due on Monday, July 8, while letters to the editor (no more than 350 words), obituaries, calendar items and news pitches will be accepted through noon on Tuesday, July 9, as usual.

City Hall and the Malibu Senior Center will be closed all day from July 4-5. The Community Pool will be closed from July 4-7.

The Malibu Business Roundtable will be rescheduled to the following Friday, July 12, from 8:30-10 a.m.

All school campuses in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District will remain closed in holiday observance.

Malibu Bluffs Park and the Michael Landon Center will be open from 8 a.m. through sunset from July 4-7. No regular programs are scheduled for Independence Day, though additional security personnel will be on patrol from 1 p.m. until 11 p.m. for residents’ safety at the park.

As for other local parks, the hours are as follows:

• Trancas Canyon Park—8 a.m. – 7 p.m. daily

• Las Flores Creek Park, Legacy Park and Malibu Equestrian Park—8 a.m. – dusk daily

As per Malibu Municipal Code, construction will be halted on the holiday itself.

As of Tuesday, July 2, two fireworks displays are scheduled to launch off the Malibu coast—one at Paradise Cove and the other at Malibu Colony—on July 4, per the City of Malibu. The display will begin around 9 p.m. and end by 10 p.m.

Other fireworks are prohibited in the city. This news brief will be updated if any other displays are officially scheduled, based off permit approval from the LA County Fire Department Fire Prevention Division.
