The Malibu High Sharks football squad continued its winning ways on its homecoming night.
The gridiron group defeated Citrus Coast League-opponent Carpinteria, 14-10, on Oct. 5 at Malibu High’s football stadium. The win improved the Sharks record to 6-1.
Malibu will play at Santa Paula, another league foe, on Friday at 7 p.m.
Malibu was down, 7-0, to Carpinteria at halftime but junior running back Dane Kapler scored two touchdowns in the third quarter to give Malibu the lead. The Sharks’ defense kept Carpinteria’s offense out of the endzone in the game’s last two quarters. Carpinteria only managed to score a field goal in the fourth quarter.
Malibu also has wins over Mark Keppel, Viewpoint, Beverly Hills, McAuliffe and Santa Clara this season. The team’s lone loss is to Hueneme.
After Santa Paula, the Sharks will host Nordoff on Oct. 19, then play at Fillmore on Oct. 26. Both schools are also Citrus Coast League opponents.
Malibu and Nordoff each sit behind Santa Paula in the league standings. Santa Paula is undefeated with a 4-0 record, while Malibu and Nordoff each have 2-1 conference records. The league’s other teams either have .500 or losing records.
