As a 29 year resident of Malibu I can say I have seen many changes. One constant, however, has been the quality of our local public school system. This is due to a variety of factors: our dedicated teachers and staff, our hardworking parent and community volunteers, the fact that we are a district of just two cities, with just under 12,000 students total, and the fact that Santa Monica and Malibu recognize that quality doesn’t come free.
Don’t we all wish there were some existing state budget line item waiting to be tapped for the many needs of our district? There isn’t. I ask Malibu and Santa Monica residents to step up to the plate and support facilities improvements by voting “yes” on Measure BB on Nov. 7. Do it for the benefit of current and future SMMUSD students. They are your friends and neighbors.
