The Los Angeles County Fire Department held a memorial service Sept. 17 for Fire Captain Paul Donohue, assigned to Station 70 in Malibu. Donahue died Aug. 30 at age 43 after a

10-year battle with brain cancer.

Donahue graduated from Pepperdine University. He became a Los Angeles County lifeguard at Zuma Beach. Later he became a firefighter for Los Angeles County, and one

of the youngest fire captains in the history of the department.

The memorial service took place at Paradise Cove and was attended by several hundred lifeguards and firefighters. The highlight of the service was a paddleout by lifeguards and firefighters. All paddlers took out a white rose. A circle was formed and participants

talked about their memories of Donahue.
