Malibu High School (MHS) will soon officially have a new principal — its fifth in four years.
Dr. Michelle “Cheli” Nye was announced as the new principal in an email sent by Interim Deputy Superintendent (and former MHS principal) Mark Kelly to parents of MHS students.
“We are confident that Dr. Nye will be a wonderful addition to the terrific MHS team,” Kelly wrote in the email.
This will be Nye’s first time taking on the role of principal. She has served as an assistant principal for a combined nine years at two different school districts — Tustin USD and Torrance USD. Kelly also touted Nye’s experience as a high school math teacher and an expert in combating cyberbullying — the topic on which she wrote her dissertation.
Nye’s first day, Kelly wrote, has not yet been determined. Interim Principal Patricia Cairns will continue at the post until a start date is established.
