One more tax too many

I shudder to think of the repercussions to this letter in opposition to Measure S, better known as another property tax hit during turbulent economic times. The last time we wrote a letter in opposition, a few shouting, nasty phone calls from parents were the result, an immature reaction that their kids saw, and I’m sure will use in the future when they, too, need to bully someone. I, like so many of my friends and neighbors, live on an economic tightrope. I don’t want to pay extra for someone else’s kids. I paid for four of my own to go to private school (while I paid taxes for your kids to go to public school). Take a lesson from Catholic schools: If you want music teachers, get some parents to teach. There’s a lot of talent out there, especially in Malibu; have bake sales and car washes; get financial pledges from parents; learn to run a tighter ship. Show some initiative and creativity to raise money. Do something else besides sticking out your big fat hand again and again. I can’t afford you.
