At a recent children’s book reading at Diesel, A Book Store by local author Christine Walker, participants and community members helped the MEE raise money for Operation Smile. The money was made through donations and the sales of Walker’s MEE books, handcrafted dolls and banana bread baked by her MEE Cookie Gang. Originally from New Zealand, Walker has spent many years as a special education teacher and has worked with many autistic and special-needs children.
Operation Smile provides free surgery for children with facial deformaties throughout the world. For more information, go to www.operationsmile.org.
