Big Rock Lane Closures Expected to End

Barring any unforeseen hiccups, city officials say lane closures at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Big Rock Drive came to an end Thursday.

The intersection has been under construction for weeks, causing lane closures and daytime traffic delays. Since early May, crews have been working to install a left-turn light from eastbound PCH onto Big Rock, narrowing traffic to one lane in each direction between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Though the closures should be done with, the intersection project will not be completed until June, according to city Public Works Supt. Arthur Aladjadjian.

“We got all the big items done as far as putting the new signals in, taking the old ones out. With that done, I am not expecting any more lane closures. We’re going to try to do all the work on the shoulder, that’s our goal,” he said Thursday.

However, he hinted at brief unexpected closures.

“Sometimes things change out in the field.”

He said there are smaller poles left to be installed and the left turn light will remain covered for several more weeks before being made available for use to motorists.Â
