The following letter was addressed to Governor Gray Davis
On behalf of the Valley Industry and Commerce Association, I am writing to join Assembly Speaker Robert Hertzberg in requesting that you include appropriations in your 2001-2002 budget proposal for the modernization of California’s voting technology.
VICA has long recognized the need to modernize the state’s voting system. The recent chaotic events in Florida have served to underscore the need to update and standardize how we vote – not just in California, but nationwide.
VICA recognized that the money requested by Speaker Hertzberg is significant for both state and local governments. However, the investment is prudent and will ensure that the problems that have occurred in Florida will not happen in California. With all eyes focused on Florida, now is the time to enact voting system upgrades.
Thank you for your consideration of this request. VICA looks forward to working closely with you on this and many other issues in next year’s budget that will help to strengthen infrastructure in the Greater San Fernando Valley Region and the State of California.
