Local paddleboarders Kris Kaliakin, left, and Gene Rink competed against about 100 other competitors in a recent paddleboard race at Santa Monica Pier. Kaliakin, a junior at Malibu High, came in third in the 17-39 age division, and Rink, a fireman and lifeguard, won the 40-and-up division.
