Fatal Collision Closes Kanan Road at PCH

[Update: 6:30 p.m.] Sheriffs have confirmed that no other injuries occurred in the crash, which involved a passenger vehicle and a pickup truck. The fatality was pronounced at the scene, with no medical transport.

Debris has been cleared but sheriffs are waiting on the LA County Coroner to arrive on scene before the road can be reopened.


A fatal car collision occurred on Kanan Road Tuesday evening, closing northbound traffic at Pacific Coast Highway. The accident involved two vehicles, according to Sgt. Lupian at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.

The accident happened around 4 p.m. near Kanan and Cavalleri Road, and Sgt. Lupian was unsure when lanes would reopen. Additional injuries are still being investigated.

Southbound traffic on Kanan Rd. is being diverted onto Latigo Rd. for access to PCH, according to an alert sent out by the City of Malibu.

The collision occurred hours after there was a rockslide near Tunnel 3 on Kanan Rd.
