More than 120 orphans and homeless children spent Independence Day at Cali Camp in Topanga for “Send a Kid to Camp Day,” hosted by local nonprofit Safety Harbor Kids.

The day included a community style picnic and barbecue to bring local community members together with children in need to create lasting friendships.

Saving Wildlife International brought exotic, rare animals including a lemur, a fox and a Madagascar hissing cockroach. Montana, a hoof-shaking and ball-catching therapy horse, also made an appearance.

Other activities included a wilderness hike, swimming, fishing, a 40-foot ropes challenge course, music, art and writing lessons, and an art contest.
