Malibu City Council voted unanimously 4-0 during its Monday, Nov. 23 meeting to dissolve the City Council Schools Subcommittee, citing increased City Council involvement in schools in the past several months.

Due to the governance of the Brown Act, a subcommittee may only present issues for discussion before the full council during officially scheduled items at City Council meetings, much to the detriment of timely action, according to Mayor Pro Tem Lou La Monte, who suggested the move.

“All of us have been involved in the school issues lately,” La Monte explained. “My suggestion would be to dissolve the Schools Subcommittee and allow each of us to deal with this as individual council members.”
