Thanks to the goodwill of people in Los Angeles County, more than $750,000 was donated through The Salvation Army in Southern California to fund World Trade Center disaster relief operations. All of that money was forwarded directly to our counterparts in New York.
To date, $26 million of the $61 million raised by The Salvation Army has been spent assisting more than three million people in need and serving in excess of four million meals to emergency workers.
With the $35 million that remains, $20 million will be distributed to survivors and victim’s families through September 11, 2002. Another $ 10 million will be spent over the next three years on grief and stress counseling services to New Yorkers suffering continued psychological distress. The remaining $5 million will be used to continue the Army’s support of the recovery workers through the Restaurant Revitalization Program in the Ground Zero area until June, 2002.
Though the majority of people in Los Angeles witnessed the horror in New York on September 11 from their television set, the pain of devastation was very real. Your response helped The Salvation Army to begin the process of healing for thousands of people.
Thank you for your noble generosity. God bless you.
