I would like to correct a statement attributed to me in last week’s article concerning my statement before the Planning Commission regarding the Malibu Bay Company’s donation of land at Point Dume for a community center and ball fields. I did share my concern with other speakers regarding the danger of turning left out of Portshead Road due to the limited visibility of oncoming cars. However, I also stated that a signal at PCH in front of the development, (triggered by a car turning into or out of the development and/or timed the same as the Heathercliff signal), would alleviate the existing and future danger of turning left out of Portshead. Since we cannot have a signal at Portshead, I look at this as an opportunity to correct an existing condition that is dangerous both today and in the future.
As someone who witnessed how the Malibu Community Center at Point Dume became the heartbeat of Malibu for 20 years, I would like to see the Bay Company’s donation of land and $5 million for amenities, bring that heartbeat back.
