An 18-year-old woman suffering an asthma attack was rescued from a canyon in Malibu near Kanan Dume Road and Mulholland Highway on Thursday evening, according to David Katz of the Malibu Search and Rescue (SAR) Team.

SAR and Los Angeles County Fire Department received a call at 6:15 p.m. reporting the female had been “incapacitated” by the asthma episode, Katz said. She was rescued from a canyon laden with poison oak and 150 feet deep. The area is 1.5 miles east of Kanan Dume Road near the popular biker hangout, the Rock Store.

After being evaluated by fire and SAR personnel who made their way over the side of the canyon, the woman was harnessed and lifted up along the steep canyon by SAR crews operating a truck and winch system. An ambulance transported the Calabasas resident to a local hospital for further evaluation just before 8 p.m.

Katz said this was the second rescue the SAR team has responded to in this particular location, known to locals as the “tree house,” at the bottom of a canyon.
