Melina Sempill Watts, coordinator of the Santa Monica Mountains Watershed at the Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains, will be honored at the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Green Leadership Awards April 24. Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky will present the awards during the Board of Supervisors meeting in downtown Los Angeles.
Watts reached out to the community to plan and facilitate Malibu Creek Watershed meetings, as well as coordinated and led watershed tours. She also wrote and produced an environmental outreach film titled “The Clean Water Act and Our Backyards: Improving Water Quality in the Santa Monica Mountains.” Additionally, she has written about environmental concerns for The Malibu Times, The Topanga Messenger, The Acorn and PCH Press.
Watts grew up in Topanga and is a longtime resident of Southern California, including the Malibu area. She earned her undergraduate degree from UCLA.
