Volunteers (left to right) Nurit Whitney, Denny Melle and Patt Healy pick weeds and planted seeds at Malibu Bluffs Park and Legacy Park on Saturday, Aug. 13 to keep Malibu free of toxic pesticides.

The Parks and Recreation Department needs volunteers in order to maintain the city parks of Malibu.

Volunteers will be needed once a month at Legacy Park to help with maintenance. The city is accepting volunteer registration for Sept. 10, Oct. 15 and Nov. 12.

Members of the Malibu Monarch Project, an environmental group that works to make Malibu more hospitable to Monarch butterflies, assisted with picking weeds and planting seeds at Malibu Bluffs Park and Legacy Park on Aug. 13.

Malibu’s Parks and Rec Department is committed to keeping the community’s parks free of toxic pesticides and the utilization of volunteers for weeding will help that effort.

Volunteers will meet from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Water and snacks will be provided. For more information or to sign up to volunteer contact Amy Crittenden at acrittenden@malibucity.org or 310.456.2489 ext. 337.
