Taking on the CCC

Remember the Rubinroits? Malibu Times reporter Sylvie Belmond related the Coastal Commission’s heartless pursuit of this family over the last four years. Their main crime was a refusal to confess to guilt when they were innocent. In spite of which, they were still ordered to remove their sports court! Well, the commission had to find something wrong or they would look very vindictive, wouldn’t they?

Well the Rubinroits said no, we want another hearing and are ready to sue. When the commission speaks, we are all supposed to cave in. The mighty CCC doesn’t like lowly citizens that say ‘No.’ So the Coastal Commission staff stuck their thumb into that white hole of former files on hold and pulled out a plum. A notice of restoration was issued on the children’s sandbox. Get it out now!

At a meeting, one irate mother suggested, “Organize all the children who can’t play in Bluffs Park with buckets. Let’s have a children’s crusade to Piuma Road. Each child gets a bucket of sand to be stored in Malibu and dumped on the staff table by our little crusaders at the next commission meeting.”

A grandmother suggested cutting a hole in the fence like the projected Coastal plan says. Erect a sign in the sand box reading, “Mountain Lion Sandbox-Children Keep Out!” Another added, “Yes, children can play in the road where they have always wanted to play anyway. We will put signs all up and down the road reading, ‘Slow Children at Play.'”

The human tendency is to think that the one accused must have done something wrong. It can’t happen to us. We are innocent. Keep a low profile. They won’t notice us. Don’t we know by now that doesn’t work to do anything but allow tyranny that is accountable to no one, to pick us off one profile. Maybe they won’t notice us. Don’t we know by now that doesn’t work? It just allows tyranny that is accountable to no one to pick us off one by one.

This won’t go away. We must support, defend, and protect one another. If you are being harassed by the California Coastal Commission let us know about it. Write a letter to the City Council or to the editor of the local newspaper. Or check our website, “Californiacoastplanning.org.”

Our friends, the Rubinroits, have been heroic in their battle not to be pushed around unjustly. We salute them and all the others who have been fighting a lonely war to protect their rights and freedom.
