A group of sheriff’s assigned to patrol Malibu’s beaches during the summer issued a final report for 2012 detailing more than 10,000 citations between Memorial Day weekend and early September.

Among several categorical citations listed, the patrol issued 4,682 parking citations, 2,379 citations for alcohol on the beach, 2,176 hazardous traffic citations and towed 440 cars. More than 250 lost children were also reunited with their parents, up from 71 lost children in 2011.

The core of the enforcement team was made up of one sergeant and eight deputies, and aided by one traffic officer, a motorcycle patrol and many reserves from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s station.

According to the report, which was presented to Malibu’s Public Safety Commission last week, the patrol took on “seemingly insurmountable challenges, given the vast number of visitors traversing through the City” during the busy summer season. But because of combined efforts from sheriffs, Lt. James Royal and Sgt. Fray Lupian called it a peaceful summer.
