Rain blackens Malibu
Salt contamination on an electric power pole caused a power outage in Malibu at 9:31 p.m. on Saturday. With electrical equipment in constant exposure to the salty sea air, salt accumulates over time and causes the equipment to short out during rainy weather. The loss of power initially affected 2,500 residents. Power was restored in sections-the last section coming back online early Sunday morning at 3:27 a.m.

Malibu Government Access Channel 3 is showing the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education candidates forum that took place last week at Malibu City Hall. The forum can be seen through Oct. 22 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Applications for art scholarship sought
The California Alliance for Arts Education is accepting applications for the 2004-05 Emerging Young Artist Awards scholarship program. The scholarship is awarded to California high school seniors who demonstrate excellence in dance, music, theatre or visual arts and are dedicated to pursuing advanced study in the arts at a college, university or professional training program.
The three rounds of competition include evaluation of a student work sample, a live audition and a final performance at Cal State Long Beach. The deadline to apply is Feb. 1.

Drama in Malibu Colony
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Malibu author Gigi Levangie Grazer wants Malibu Colony to be the backdrop for an ABC drama.
The Hollywood Reporter reported the show will be called “The Colony.” Grazer, who is married to producer Brian Grazer, said the characters will not be based on actual people.
The main characters will be a married couple. The husband is a chief of staff at a large hospital and the wife is a former journalist.
Grazer is the author of the novels “Maneater” and “Rescue Me.” She also wrote the screenplay for the movie “Stepmom,” which starred Julia Roberts.
