Keep area peaceful

The proposed purchase by the City of the 9.8 acres DeWitt property at Heathercliff and PCH is unacceptable. This area of Malibu is zoned Rural Residential-Five Acres (RR-5). The idea of changing the zoning to commercial would set a precedent for other spot-zoning, whether they be new nurseries, ranches or other entities.

Our property shares the adjacent border west of the proposed acreage. We have major concerns regarding drainage and down-slope seepage due to paving and septic. We endure erosion and PCH run-off from an old Caltrans pipe under the adjoining tree farm, spilling into a swale that empties through our property and our neighbor’s, hence flooding Bonsall. More seepage spells disaster.

The intersection at Heathercliff and PCH is notorious for accidents. A busy community center, teen center, city hall or library at that location would add yet more siren wails, which we suffer all summer long. The glow in the sky would brighten even more with nighttime events.

We live at the rural end of Malibu because of the peacefulness, away from the hustle-bustle of town. Certainly more paving, traffic, or re-zoning is not the rural way of life and we urge that you not support this land purchase.
