City council member Sharon Barovsky is right. This is the silly season. It’s bad enough that someone is going around vandalizing the yard signs of some of the candidates. How childish! Now, come the outright lies.
Today, I received an e-mail purportedly from a “coalition of concerned parents” that no one I know has ever heard of. This e-mail accuses two of the candidates of being anti-family and anti-children. Never mind that these candidates have families of their own, the author(s) of this blatant scare tactic resort to lies about the candidates and their positions on the issues.
It’s a shame that we can’t have an election in this city that focuses on the positive.
In the final weeks before Election Day, I look forward to a meaningful exchange of ideas on how to improve Malibu but I suspect we are likely to get more dirty tricks and pranks instead. Before you cast your vote, I urge everyone to ignore these vicious, slanderous rumors. Get the facts about each candidate first hand by attending one of the many forums that are scheduled between now and April 13th.
