Carolers at the annual Keep Christ in Christmas celebration turn toward PCH for “Joy to the World,” singing and waving to those passing by. Last Sunday marked this season’s first weekend of Christmas carols sung outside the crèche at Webb Way and Pacific Coast Highway.  The tradition will continue each weekend until Christmas.

The sounds of carolers at this season’s first Keep Christ in Christmas caroling at the crèche could be heard on Sunday afternoon at the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Webb Way, as many gathered to help ring in the Christmas season.

This Sunday’s caroling was hosted by Calvary Chapel Malibu, with Pastor Brian La Spada offering prayers and insight as well as helping to lead carols.

Malibu locals, family and friends gathered to sing Christmas carols and celebrate their Christian faith at this all-denomination event that has been part of the fabric of Malibu for more than half a century. This year marks the 54th annual Keep Christ in Christmas celebration, which has become a long-standing tradition for many families in the community. Generation after generation join the festivities each Sunday leading up to Christmas. Each Sunday a different church hosts the event, which includes prayers, caroling, candle lighting and light snacks.

As part of the tradition, carolers turned toward PCH for the last song, “Joy to the World,” and sang while waving to those passing by, a symbol of peace, welcoming all to join the fun. The next Keep Christ in Christmas Caroling at the Crèche will be Sunday, Dec. 3, hosted by Malibu Presbyterian and  Our Lady of Malibu churches.
