California Senator Henry Stern was named nonprofit Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA)’s 2019 California Tech Champion. The award is given to lawmakers who advocate for the technology in state legislature and “have shown consistent support for this vital economic sector,” per CompTIA.

“California is the innovation capital of the world, fueled by the ingenuity, passion and precision of our technology workforce. While challenges remain, our state’s best days lie ahead—and I’m confident that, with principled and credible tech partners, we will realize an economic future that is prosperous, fair and more innovative than ever,” the senator said in a shared statement.

Per his website, Stern co-founded a technology incubator—designed to help new companies succeed through providing various services—prior to his tenure in state government. Currently, he is part of the bipartisan California Legislative Technology and Innovation Caucus with Assemblymember Richard Bloom, among others.

The senator was honored at a reception held on Wednesday, Feb. 20, in Sacramento.
