The football team practices in preparation for the 2010 season.

As summer temperatures finally arrived in Malibu last week, more than 30 Malibu High School boys were strapping on pads and helmets for eight hours of training per day in preparation for what is expected to be an exciting football season. Head coach Ray Humphrey enters his sixth season at the helm with expectancy following a productive summer of weight lifting, conditioning, 7-on-7 games, camps and “hell week.”

“Our defense is young but solid at all positions and our offense will be fun to watch,” Humphrey said.

Many on the varsity squad are from last year’s junior varsity team that finished with a 7-2 record. They will need to step up and senior leadership from Laker Dohan, David Sandborg, Matthew Mason and starting quarterback Chris Konkol will be required to achieve the goal of a conference championship.

Home games will be on Saturdays. Junior varsity games will take place at 10 a.m. and varsity games at 1 p.m. The Sharks open the season at home on Sept. 4 against Fillmore.

Business owners who would like to sponsor the football team should contact Humphrey at 310.457.6801 ext. 74-242 for details.
