[12:40 p.m.] According to Edison, just one customer remains without power: Juan Cabrillo Elementary School.

Fiesta Malibu is currently going on at Juan Cabrillo Elementary, but it’s unclear if the outage is affecting the event.

The cause of Sunday’s morning outage was said to be a problem with “the connection between the overhead lines and underground lines that fed the school there,” said a media spokesman.

More than 2,000 Edison customers in western Malibu are without electricity on Sunday morning.

An Edison representative said 2,039 customers are affected by the outage, which was reported at approximately 8:15 a.m.

“We don’t have any cause yet. We don’t have any restoration time [estimate],” the spokesman said. He also did not yet know what had caused the outage, which affects customers from Point Dume all the way to Sycamore Canyon.

Malibu local Hans Laetz, who was at the scene, said it appeared a car had crashed into the power pole because of skid marks found near the scene. A spokesman at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station said a car had crashed into the Heathercliff/PCH pole “sometime earlier in the morning,” but that the crash did not appear to have caused the outage.

Check back for more information as it becomes available.

Editor’s note: A previous version stated the outage was caused by a damaged power pole. Authorities with the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s station said the damaged pole did not appear to be related to the outage.
