[UPDATE 3:45 p.m.]

A man’s dead body was found on the beach near the 20500 block of Pacific Coast Highway on Tuesday afternoon, according to Sgt. Wright with the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s station.

“Apparently, a male adult is what we believe right now,” Wright said.

The body was reported at approximately 1:25 p.m., authorities said. Firefighters and deputies arrived to find a male unresponsive on the beach.

Reports listed the body was found near popular Malibu restaurant Moonshadows, but officials confirmed the location of the body is west of the restaurant.

“I can see the Sheriffs passing by,” Moonshadows Manager Alex Antoniazzi said Tuesday. “I don’t see anything in front of here in terms of police or firefighters, the only thing i can hear is a helicopter cruising around.”

The story will continue to develop as more information becomes available.

[Original post] Uniform deputies were on scene as of 2:45 p.m., and an investigation was underway.

“They are conducting an investigation and in touch with the homicide bureau and that is en route from L.A.,” said Sgt. Wright.

“Also the coroner,” he added.

Details as to the age, sex or race of the deceased are not known, nor is the cause of death.

“Just because somebody’s on the beach doesn’t mean they drowned,” Wright said.

“But that’s often the case in Malibu,” he added.

According to Wright, there will be a 3 p.m. briefing for emergency personnel, after which more information will become available.
