With waves as high as 20 feet forecasted during the most powerful swells, National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood advisory for Malibu and surrounding beach cities this weekend. The warning takes effect Saturday at noon and lasts through 9 p.m. Monday.

Forecasters predict “very strong” rip currents on the Los Angeles coast. Peak time for surf should be Sunday night, according to NWS, when swells reach between 6 and 9 feet.

“The high surf and long period swells will cause dangerous rip currents on area beaches that will pose a threat to all swimmers,” a statement from the NWS said.
