Pepperdine beach volleyball head coach Nina Matthies announced the signing of national letters of intent, bringing three new players — Brook Bauer, Alexis Fillippone and Shannon Murphy — to compete with the Waves in the upcoming 2017-18 season.
Fort Lauderdale native and senior at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Brook Bauer comes from the same indoor program as Pepperdine star Nikki Lyons. The senior has a grade point average of 4.9, and has an outstanding record within the sport, picking up multiple top honors throughout her career.
Hailing from San Diego, Alexis Fillippone is graduating from Torrey Pines High School in 2017, leaving quite the legacy behind. The athlete led her indoor team in kills with a senior campaign of 266 and is ranked second in kills in the San Diego Division I volleyball standings.
Rounding out the big three, Shannon Murphy will come to Pepperdine from Friendswood, Tex. and is also expected to graduate from Friendswood High School in 2017. The senior has also picked up multiple honors in her career, and was ranked second in the Texas 6A division in aces and fifth in attack performance in 2016.
“All three incoming freshmen are amazing athletes and superior students,” Matthies said of the new additions in a statement. “They are all ‘A’ students and very experienced beach players. They bring in height — all over six-feet tall — have great ball control and offensively will be a force. We are so excited to have them all as this group embodies Pepperdine beach volleyball.”
