L.A. County Sheriff’s Deputies rescued a small dog from a hot car in the parking lot at Zuma Beach in Malibu on Saturday, July 9 at about 2 p.m.

The dog was reportedly left locked in a vehicle in the parking lot while its owners spent time at the beach, where dogs are not allowed. The windows of the car were slightly cracked.

The Sheriff’s Malibu Beach Team received an alert from a passerby who noticed the dog, which was described as “extremely thirsty.”

The dog was given water by Sheriff’s Deputy Krase and returned to its owners, who were advised against leaving animals in vehicles.

“Common sense is not so common,” Sgt. Braden from the beach team wrote in a message to The Malibu Times. “Please leave your animal at home.”

Temperatures at Zuma Beach reached over 70 degrees Fahrenheit on Wednesday, meaning the inside of the vehicle could have reached over 100 degrees, depending on how long the dog was in the vehicle.
