Simpler and better

Apparently the City Council has recently thought about becoming green and suggested options, all of which cost money, may save money and resources over time, and which apparently will be offset to some extent with incentives such as reductions in the cost of services.

Nowhere was evapo-transpiration mentioned. This costs little or nothing to install and would not required incentives. On several occasions over the years and in the past several months, I have discussed with the council, planning commission and staff the evapo-transpiration system we installed in our office building 20 years ago.

It’s a simple system used where leach fields are installed. You plant rows of trees between the leach lines and use root barriers to direct the tree’s roots below the gravel bed. The effluent is absorbed and transpirated from the leaves back into the air. It couldn’t be simpler, it couldn’t be cheaper and it would result in less liquid destabilizing the hillside.

This is something every inland home and commercial building operating on a leach field should be required to do without incentives.
