Malibu surf teams catch wins

    Malibu surf team members Moorea Maguire, Frankie Seely, Henry Buckley, Tom Klane and Kerns Churchill, seen here with coaches Mike Moss and Mitt Seely, all earned honors during the team’s season opening competition last weekend. 

    The Malibu High School and Middle School surf teams earned victories over long-time rival Dos Pueblos High School in their season opener last weekend at Mandalay Bay. 

    High school finalists include team captain Moorea Maguire, who earned first place in the longboard competition, and double finalist Frankie Seely, who placed first in the shortboard competition and third in the longboard final. Other team members earning honors were Henry Buckley, with a third-place finish in men’s longboard, Tom Klane, who placed fourth in bodyboarding and Kerns Churchill, coming in sixth in men’s shortboard. 

    The high school surf team is coached by Mike Moss and Mitt Seely and the middle school team is coached by Dan Tucker.
