This Wednesday, Jan. 22, Malibu will be tested to our core. The MRCA is trying to pull a fast one. They are having a scoping meeting at King Gillette Ranch at Mulholland Highway and Malibu Canyon Road.
Their intent is to build seven new coastal accessways along Pacific Coast Highway. That would be fine if they knew how to take care of the 12 that they have and are mismanaging. You can go on the MRCA website or the City of Malibu website to see where these are located.
They are trying to bypass Malibu’s Local Coastal Program. They tried this once before and lost in superior court 10 years ago.
Our job Wednesday night is to tell them if they want new accessways they should fix the existing ones. For instance, put the gates back on that you ripped off. Close them at night and open them at dawn. Especially enforce the laws of no dogs on the beach and stop them from defecating on the beach and in the ocean. We need trash cans on the beach so that we can keep the ocean clean. MRCA maintains that they are an environmental agency; they should act like one.
