Want to make PCH safer? The solution to that issue is obvious to anyone who reads The Malibu Times DUI checkpoint results. Month after month, the exact same thing: out of any 20 arrests made, only one is for DUI and the remainder are mostly those driving on revoked licenses or driving without having a license at all.
Sure, there are spots like the intersection of Las Flores Road and PCH, which have a history of problems, but I travel that intersection daily, and there’s plenty of people every week that blow through the red lights or make an illegal turn. The answer is not to keep doing the same thing in terms of enforcement that hasn’t improved the situation. Simply take the cars away from all people driving without a license for the duration of any further license suspension. It should not matter whose car it is, for if you lend it to someone who should not be on the road, you are responsible for anything they do.
The recent Jenner accident is a good case in point, since only one of the three involved drivers had a valid license. Why isn’t anyone taking note of this?
