Cindy Crawford Speaks at Malibu Unites Rally

-A high-speed chase that began in Chatsworth ended with the arrest of an armed suspect who was hiding in the greenery around Bluffs Park. The chase and standoff had it all: carjacking and kidnapping, reports of shots fired, a coordinated attack by the FBI, LAPD, CHP and L.A. County Sheriffs, and led to the suspect in custody and a $1 million bail. Ironically, Malibu, which seldom sees a car chase, had another one the following week: a carjacking in the Palisades that ended in a crash at the PCH and Malibu Canyon intersection.

-The power of celebrity was never more evident than when local Malibu mom Cindy Crawford took the battle over PCBs at Malibu High to national airwaves during a sit-down interview on the “Today” show. Despite uncertainties, Malibu schools appeared to open without hitch that fall.

-A surfer died near the Malibu Pier during high surf and rough ocean conditions. A second surfer almost met similar fate near Latigo Shores but survived.
