Security vs. freedom

This plan of the mayor’s to install private security cameras throughout Malibu is taken right out of Bush’s playbook. Destroy freedom in the name of protecting us. Maybe it’s the Dem’s “nanny state” impulse. Folks are incapable of caring for themselves so government has to hold our hands at every turn and tuck us in at night.

Malibu is not Somalia, Timbuktu or the boonies and I suggest if one’s gated estate, tank-like Range Rover and designer-clothed lifestyle do not make one feel secure, then please return to Beverly Hills, Bel Air or other “high security” zones. I hear Cher is selling her maximum-security “prison” on PCH. Maybe frightened Malibu mommies can all live there in perfect comfort and security.

I have more respect for the ability of Malibu moms and their families to take care of themselves, especially if we have a real 24/7-sheriff presence here to enforce existing laws. Let’s not destroy what’s left of freedom in this country in the name of unattainable perfect security. I say cops, not cameras!

Here’s a simple plan. Get the sheriff’s department a cheap trailer this week and put it next to the Labor Exchange and cough up enough money to staff it 24/7 with at least one sworn officer dedicated to local policing.
