Disputing falsehoods

For those of you who might have read Mr. Liebig’s letter in the other local newspaper, I would like to let you know that I don’t usually respond to most of the half-truths and distortions I sometimes read in “letters to the editor.” But Mr. Liebig’s letter’s falsehoods in last week’s paper is so outrageous, it demands a response. True to form, Mr. Liebig manufactures realty to fit his attack. In his letter, Mr. Liebig suggests I voted to hire Ms. Susan Shaw (who ran our successful fundraising efforts for Legacy Park) because she had worked in my campaign for City Council. That is absolutely false! Ms. Shaw never licked a stamp, stuffed an envelope, or attended a meeting for my campaign. I had no contact what-so-ever with her during that time. However, she is an extraordinary worker, who raised over $2 million in private donations for the purchase of the Chili Cook-off. I’m sure, had she been one of my campaign workers, my victory over Mr. Liebig, who along with John Mazza, opposed me in my campaign, would have been greater.
