Traffic calming will be removed on the coastal highway near L A X.

Metro has a problem on the Expo Line … a fire has cut train service in half today.

And Dick Van Dyke issues a right proper apology, governor.

This is Malibu’s only local daily news.

It’s the Thursday edition … from Radio Malibu  …. 97 point 5 K B U.

Good morning Trancas Canyon Road!

——

Big hurricane surf may arrive in Malibu this weekend … or may not.

Hurricane Hilary is running out of gas as it churns west from Mexico … well south of Baja.

Surfline says Hilary has looked fairly unimpressive over the last 24 hours … it failed to reach major hurricane status.

Hillary may merge with an earlier small tropical storm … Irwin.

The National Weather Service has ratcheted back its predictions .… now says 7 foot surf will arrive … not 10 …

And it might arrive Saturday night … not tomorrow.

——

A large traffic crash last night .. just after 9 o clock … on P C H.

Eight fire engines and a fire helicopter were sent to deal with the crash and the aftermath.

Crews were on scene for more than an hour and a half.

Two cars involved … both demolished in what looks like a nasty crash.

The investigation is on-going … we are told.

——

The city of Los Angeles is going to reverse itself … and remove traffic calming measures along a coastal highway near L A X.

The L-A Times reports today that four lanes will replace the two lanes plus angled parking … along Vista del Mar.

That highway … very similar to P C H … has been the scene of fatal crashes … injury crashes and fender benders.

The City of L A six weeks ago took out half of the lanes …. and installed angled parking and bike lanes.

The traffic calming infuriated commuters from other cities … like Manhattan Beach … who regularly use the oceanfront street as a de facto highway bypass for the crowded 405.

——

There will be half as many Expo Line trains running between Santa Monica and Los Angeles today.

A small fire broke out in a signal box at 7th and Fig last night.

That means capacity has been cut in half .. trains will run every 12 minutes instead of every six minutes as normal on a weekday.

Repairs should be finished today.

——

The coroner has released the name of the man killed two nights ago on Malibu Canyon Road.

His name … Tzemach Kalson … 68-years-old … from Encino.

His car went off the road two nights ago … and into the canyon … south of the tunnel.

The C H P report does not say why that may have happened. … it appears no other car was involved.

Malibu restraint entrepreneur Howdy Kabrins has filed a state court lawsuit against the man who is now on trial in South Africa for killing his daughter.

Kabrins and Doris Weitz, the father and mother of Gabriela Kabrins Alban, filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against Diego Dougherty Novella.

Novella’s family has owned a cement monopoly in Guatemala  for more than a century and the business is worth more than $1 billion, the lawsuit states.

Diego Novella is on trial for the woman’s murder in South Africa

Alban and Novella met in Malibu in 1999 when … when Alban was a student at Pepperdine University.

Novella’s murderer trial has been going on for five weeks now … in Cape Town South Africa.

Novella claims innocence because he was under the influence of drugs,

The Donald Trump administration is considering opening 35-hundred square miles of California waters to energy development.

And that includes the Channel Islands Marine Sanctuary … visible from Malibu.

The San Francisco Chronicle says the move is prompting a fierce reaction from Santa Barbara to Mendocino … backed by both senators  Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris.

At President Trump’s order …  the Department of Commerce is re-evaluating the sanctuary status of areas granted protection within the past decade under Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush.

The review covers recent sanctuary expansions near the Channel Islands, Big Sur and Sonoma and Mendocino counties — home to endangered whales, rare seabirds, ancient corals and other sea creatures.

Activities that pose a threat to marine life are prohibited at the sites, including oil and gas drilling, seabed mining and ocean dumping.

The Trump administration … meanwhile … has threatened Republican senators over their votes on the health care bills.

Both of Alaska’s U-S Senators have been told that the vote of one of them … Lisa Murkowski … against Trumpcare will have consequences.

And those consequences have to do with environmental protection in Alaska.

Each of Alaska’s two Republican senators had received a phone call from Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke letting them know the Murkowski vote had put Alaska’s future with the administration in jeopardy … and environmental protections were specifically mentioned in the threat.

California’s coastal resources are of extremely high value to Californians …. and our congressional delegation.

The White House is now pledging to using looser environmental laws … as retribution against politicians who oppose the President on health care or other issues.
